Bureau En Gros Staff Not Talking - So Why a Liquidation Sale?
January 18, 2009
I have just returned from the Cavendish Mall Bureau en Gros. I did not identify myself as a city councillor nor as a columnist for The Suburban Newspaper (www.thesuburban.com). There are big signs in the windows and throughout the store screaming "Liquidation Sale." That is always a signal to me of "closure."
"When are are you closing?" I asked the manager.
"I don't know what you are talking about," he said, then quickly walked away from me.
I ventured over to the photocopy section and asked the same question. The two employees just looked at each other.
"You have a big liquidation sign on the windows," I noted. "Does this not mean you are closing."
"Oh," one of them responded, "that just means we have lots of stock we need to get rid of."
Well clearly this will require more investigation. I hope they are correct and that the store stays opened.
You spread a rumor that the store is closing. Then you go under cover to try to get the manager to admit it. And then you break the news to some employees that they may be laid off soon ? Maybe you can also tell them they were adopted. Or that the paternity test proves they are the father of their girlfriends baby. Anyway I hope the store stays open too. Good luck with the rest of your investigation.

Thanks for your comments. When I see "Liquidation Sale" I get concerned. By speculating in print, you usually get a quick answer to a rumour that won't go away. The latest word I have is that it may not close. I hope that is correct. P.S. I did not go undercover. I simply asked the same question many other customers were that same day.

The more you learn, the more you know, The more you know, the more you forget. The more you forget, the less you know. So why bother to learn.
